The Broons have been going strong for eighty years, but this is the first time they have been brought to life on stage.
The cast of this ‘World Premiere’ is made up of a group of talented actor-musicians. I was constantly being surprised as the cast switched from acting to singing to playing an array of instruments including keyboard, guitar and saxophone.
It was a bit slow to start but as soon as it hit its stride the antics and banter began to gain momentum. The show was peppered with familiar Scottish tunes which inevitably had the audience clapping and foot stomping. The storyline was one that had been resurrected from the 70’s and followed Maggie’s Wedding.
The script was amusing and very much in keeping with the relaxed and homely vibe of the comics.
We took our ten year old and she says, “I was hooked from the start. The script was exciting and funny. My favourite character was The Bairn.”
Overall we thought it was really well put together. Honest to the comics, and very much ‘good, clean, family fun’.
The Broons runs until Sat 5th November.
