If you’ve managed to simplify your Christmas, then you should have some time to enjoy the little pleasures the season offers.
Your Christmas doesn’t have to be wildly lavish or expensive to give you that Hygge feeling (if you haven’t heard of Hygge, it’s that cosy perfect feeling that’s really easy to create at this time of year). Here are ten simple ways to hygge this Christmas.
1. Hot Chocolate
Hot chocolate is super cheap and brings warmth and pleasure at this time of year. If you don’t like hot chocolate, give Englishmum’s Pumpkin Spice Skinny Latte a try.
2. Family Television
Christmas is a time for relaxation, and seeing as you probably pay for a TV license anyway, it’s one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. This year we’re enjoying Planet Earth and ALL the Christmas films.
3. Simple Christmas Decorations
Choose just a few things you love. Less is more.
Candles are the best way to create cosy gentle lighting, they can also be very cheap. Buy the lowest cost tea lights, or treat yourself to a scented candle.
5. Homemade Soup
Make a big pot of soup – it’s great to have on standby to eat in between the rich food.
6. Time To Read
If you ask most women what they want for Christmas, you’ll probably find a fair few say some time to relax! Time to read is a simple pleasure, and one that I always enjoy at Christmas.
7. Quality Street
Christmas isn’t Christmas without Quality Street (or Roses, if you’re that way inclined). Just £4 for a big tub to get that Christmassy feeling!
8. Caramel/Hazelnut/Vanilla Syrup
This year I’m all about the flavoured syrups. I’m drizzling that stuff on everything – check out my porridge pimped up with some vanilla syrup!
9. Christmas Playlist
Your Christmas playlist can include any music that makes you feel good, we like a mix of cheesy Christmas songs, classical music, and a big helping of Elvis.
10. Lazy Breakfasts
One of my favourite things about Christmas is the opportunity to have a late breakfast with the family. A pot of tea on the table, hot toast, special jams and marmalades and something indulgent like poached egg, asparagus and a lemon hollandaise. Yum.
