We’re always looking for days out that have a little something for everyone in the family. The best days out are always the ones where everyone can enjoy something, and nobody feels like they are sacrificing – The Restoration Yard & Fort Douglas at Dalkeith Country Park offers just that.
The day started with a bit of a somber tone as we found out my nan had been taken to hospital, I didn’t want to just stay in waiting for news, so we decided to continue with our plans.
We parked at the entrance to Dalkeith Country Park and took the opportunity to have a mind clearing walk through some lovely scenery.
As we descended through a bit of woodland and down the hill, Fort Douglas came into view. This huge wooden adventure playground is every child’s dream. There is an admission fee which seems fair given the scale of the park, it cost us £5 for Erin, tickets for younger children are cheaper, and adults gain free entry.
Just beside Fort Douglas, and in perfect range for older children to run back and forth, is The Restoration Yard and The Restoration Yard Cafe. The Restoration Yard is a large shop featuring clothes, cosmetics, homeware and glass. There’s also a small farm shop.
We reckon that covers something for everyone? So if you’re looking for a day out near Edinburgh, give the Restoration Yard and Fort Douglas a look.
